Smart Stations

Employ IOT to improve platform safety, customer satisfaction and reduce cost

smart stations

Use IoT to monitor and remotely manage station facilities, improving platform safety and customer satisfaction, whilst reducing cost

By deploying an end-to-end solution consisting of devices, real-time business intelligence, management and automation, public transport can improve safety and security, drive operational efficiencies, as well as provide additional services to enhance the customers’ experience.

This multi–technology solution comprises IoT Sensors, IP Cameras / Video Capture, Video Analytics, UWB movement and connectivity. A bespoke, cloud-based analytics platform collating the myriad of data streams and providing meaningful insights, monitoring and alerts in real-time to a single customer dashboard.

Improve safety, security and service levels whilst reducing cost

smart stations

This provides a smart station IoT solution designed to automatically monitor footfall and passenger/crowd flow, mask detection, social distancing, track side infringements (yellow line), dwell time, washroom occupancy, noise levels and air quality, triggering automated actions and human intervention to optimise safety, security and operational efficiencies at the station.

Fully supported by Bell Integration’s automated AI managed services platform, service continuity is monitored. Should any device develop a fault, a replacement is automatically deployed to site, minimising business disruption.

Why Use IoT

  • Passenger Safety - IOT can be used to help ensure the safety, health and wellbeing of passengers and staff. Sensors working in conjunction with IP cameras provide real-time video analytics to monitor emergency exits, assess threats, identify suicide risk and flag dangerous customer behaviour.
  • Station Security - Sensors monitor movement, or forced entry work, in conjunction with IP cameras, reactive lighting, security and alarm systems. This provides real-time video analytics, instant alerts to staff and the ability to assess threats, trespassers, hostile passengers, theft or damage to station property.
  • Reduce the risk of hot spots - IoT can be used to identify customers running a high temperature as well as flag whether passengers are wearing facemasks. The appropriate action can then be taken by gate staff to help mitigate any risk of infection.
  • Smart Washrooms - Sensors measure footfall and soap and hand towel dispenser usage. The sensors are linked to a cloud platform, which alerts cleaning staff via a mobile app when supplies run low.
  • Reactive Staff Schedules - Matching cleaning, maintenance and security schedules to footfall, facility usage and incident alerts enables service improvements and operational efficiencies to be gained.
  • Health and Wellbeing - The wellbeing and comfort of both passengers and staff is critical to any transport network. IoT sensors can be used to monitor a variety of metrics, including CO2 levels, temperature, humidity, airborne chemicals, smoke, light, occupancy and air pressure.

Bell Integration delivers an end-to-end IoT capability to public transport, from procurement, asset management, logistics, deployment and ultimately customer support in a multi-vendor world.
